SkillsActive/IMSPA Confirm Shared Vision With Memorandum Of Understanding

9th May 2011

SkillsActive and the Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (IMPSA) have unveiled a new "shared vision" for the future of the UK's skills agenda.

The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to clarify their responsibilities and roles in supporting the growth of sport and active leisure.

Under the new MoU, SkillsActive and IMSPA will work to support the introduction of an employer skills protocol and to support progression to chartered status for all.

It is hoped the efforts of the two organisations will help bring about national occupational standards covered by the chartered institute membership.

Other aims include the establishment of a single qualifications framework covered by the chartered institute membership, as well as the embedding of the activepassport initiative.

IMSPA chief executive officer Sean Holt added: "As the professional development body of the UK's sport and physical activity Sector we have promised that the new Chartered Institute will speak with one unified voice.

"This memorandum of understanding clearly demonstrates our commitment to deliver on this promise. Working with the SkillsActive Group we look forward to delivering inspiring professional development programmes for the workforce of tomorrow."

SkillsActive chief executive Stephen Studd added: "Together SkillsActive and IMSPA are committed to the delivery of a shared vision; a qualified, professional and chartered workforce to support the future success of the sport, physical activity and active leisure industry."
