Capital Investment Initiative For Beach Volleyball

27th May 2011

Beach volleybalVolleyball England has launched a new initiative to increase numbers of participants and spectators in beach sports with funding for beach courts across the UK. As part of its efforts to expand the sport, The national governing body has published a document titled Development of Beach Volleyball Courts.

The document details conversion and modification methods of under-used public areas into sand courts.

Volleyball England aims to build 10 permanent multi-court beach centres by 2013.

The launch sits within Volleyball England's 'Go Spike!' initiative, which will see everyone around the country given the opportunity to try volleyball for free.

Lisa Wainwright, chief executive of Volleyball England, said: "Beach volleyball will be one of the most popular sports at the London 2012 Olympic Games and it is important we provide facilities ahead of the games, for people to experience the sport as both players and spectators.

"The Beach Volleyball Capital Investment Initiative will provide an opportunity to involve more people in healthy lifestyles, create new visitor attractions and facilities for the local communities and support local businesses. It provides a true partnership project."
