Gloucestershire County Cricket Club - Redevelopment Approved By Bristol City Council

31st May 2012

Gloucestershire county cricket clubBristol City Council (BCC) has approved plans put forward by Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC) for the redevelopment of its County Ground home.

The Arturus-designed project was given the green light by the local authority's development control (north) committee, which had previously rejected the club's initial plans earlier this year.

Working in partnership with Linden Homes, GCCC is planning a comprehensive revamp of the stadium - including the demolition of the existing Mound and Jessop stands. A new-look pavilion will incorporate a modern media centre and 7,500 permanent seats are to be installed. A number of residential apartments are also planned as part of the scheme.

GCCC chief executive Tom Richardson said: "This decision finally allows us to realise our ambitions in bringing the very best of what cricket can offer to our home city. It has been a long journey and a huge amount of hard work has gone into it, which in turn has been supported by residents across Bristol, including our local area of Bishopston."
