Work Starts On Fernhill Community Facility

Barr Construction has started work on the development of a new £5.2m community centre for Fernhill district of Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.

The facility, which will replace the existing Fernhill Pavilion, is to include a main hall with kitchen and bar; a seven-a-side, floodlit, all-weather football pitch; and changing facilities.

Funding for the centre, which will also boast training and crèche activities, has been provided by South Lanarkshire Council and the Community Regeneration Partnership's Fairer Scotland Fund. The chair of the council's community resources committee, Gerry Convery, said: "This will be a great facility for the people of Fernhill and is another in the line of very successful new community facilities throughout South Lanarkshire."
