Stadia Design and Technology Expo 2011 opened its doors from April 12-14, 2011 and promptly established itself as the must-attend annual convention for anyone involved in the business of operating, designing, and developing stadiums, arenas and sporting venues.

Almost 100 exhibitors participated at the expo – which was held in the Los Angeles Convention Center in California – each showcasing the latest in stadium concepts, technologies, and services. Stadia Design & Technology Expo 2011 also hosted a first-class conference that included speakers of such notability as Tim Leiweke, president of AEG.

Graham Johnson, managing director of UKIP Media & Events, the international publishing and exhibitions firm that organizes Stadia Design & Technology Expo, said, “This is the first year that we’ve taken Stadia to Los Angeles, and the response has been overwhelming. Over 300 delegates attended the conference, with over 1,000 exhibition attendees on each of the first two days of the event, and around 500 attendees on the third and final day.

“We’ve seen business being done throughout the convention. Several exhibitors have reported that they met the right people, with numerous firms actually signing contracts with visitors. Exhibitors have been thrilled that Stadia Design & Technology Expo attracted a truly international audience, with visitors from 33 countries, including South Africa, Brazil, Australia, and Europe. We’ve also seen hundreds of key industry figures visiting from North America too – the convention is truly a global marketplace.”

He continued, “We’re expecting the expo to double in size next year when we’re back in LA from May 8-10, 2012, plus I want to see the conference attract even more delegates, thus creating the networking opportunity of the year, every year. Stadia Design & Technology Expo is the event at which suppliers to the stadia industry can do business, and where stadium and arena operators can discover new technologies, new revenue streams, innovative ways to improve efficiency and safety, and new ways to attract more events and spectators. We’re very excited about the future of this must-attend event!”

Johnson wasn’t alone in his enthusiasm. Jesse Waiters, assistant general manager, Rose Bowl Stadium, commented, “Stadia Expo was also very timely for the things we are looking to do at the Rose Bowl. The show was like a candy store with an array of products and services to see. A great show to attend for anyone operating a venue.”

Jennifer Sandstrom, director of event services at the neighboring AEG Staples Center, added, “We were really impressed with the international diversity of the show and conference. We thought the exhibition was great!”. Makato Yamada, general manager, Sony Electronics Inc, agreed: “We found the expo very informative and we had many good discussions with the attendees.”

The annual convention is already over 60% sold out with, at the time of writing, 52 weeks to go until it opens from May 8-10, 2012 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
